Turning Herbal Formulas into Market-Ready Products: Applications in Vietnam and the United States

Jun.15.2026

Background
For many overseas personal care brands, the real challenge is no longer simply finding a manufacturer that can fill a bottle or produce a cream. The challenge is to build products with a clear market position, a credible ingredient story, a pleasant user experience, and claims that can be communicated responsibly in each target market. This case study looks at two completed market applications of our herbal formulation system: intimate care products developed for the Vietnam market, and comfort-focused topical care and skincare products developed for the United States market.
The two markets were very different. Vietnam required products that felt gentle, clean, and suitable for daily intimate hygiene routines. The United States required a broader formulation approach, covering body comfort creams and daily skincare products that could combine botanical ingredients with modern cosmetic textures. In both cases, the client expectation was not only to add herbal extracts into a formula, but to turn those ingredients into finished products with commercial logic, consumer-friendly positioning, and a stable OEM/ODM production pathway.

Project Overview
The core of the project was our herbal formulation platform. Instead of treating herbal ingredients as simple marketing decorations, we evaluated how each plant extract could support the sensory profile, target scenario, and product narrative. For intimate care, the formula needed to feel mild, fresh, and non-aggressive. For U.S. topical comfort products, the formula needed a massage-friendly texture, a clean skin feel, and a warming or cooling sensory direction depending on the product concept. For skincare, the formula needed to support daily hydration, softness, barrier comfort, and a more natural product image.
Because the products were designed for international brands, we also considered how the claims would be understood by overseas consumers. We avoided exaggerated medical language and focused on language that could support brand communication: daily comfort, fresh feeling, gentle cleansing, moisturizing care, massage support, skin softness, and botanical-based product differentiation. This approach helped the clients move from an ingredient idea to a complete product line.

Vietnam Market Application: Intimate Care
The Vietnam project focused on female intimate care products. The client wanted to develop a product line that looked modern, feminine, and natural, while also being suitable for the local consumer preference for freshness, cleanliness, and daily personal care. The products included intimate wash, cleansing mousse, and gel-format items designed around external intimate care and daily hygiene routines.
At the beginning of the project, the client’s concern was differentiation. Many intimate wash products in the market communicate the same basic messages: clean, fresh, gentle, and pH-balanced. The brand wanted a stronger reason for consumers to remember the product. Our solution was to build the line around a botanical care concept, using selected herbal extracts to create a softer, more natural story while keeping the formula direction practical and consumer-friendly.
The formulation work started with the skin-feel requirements. For intimate care, a formula cannot feel heavy, sticky, overly perfumed, or harsh after rinsing. We adjusted the surfactant system and texture to create a light foam, easy rinsing, and a clean after-feel. Botanical extracts were selected not only for name recognition, but also for how they supported the desired positioning: soothing daily care, fresh comfort, and a more balanced cleansing experience. The goal was to make the product feel like a careful daily care item rather than a strong treatment product.
For the intimate wash and mousse, we designed the formula around mild cleansing and freshness. The product language focused on external use, daily cleansing, pH-balanced care, and comfort for sensitive areas. For the gel-format products, the texture was designed to be smooth, non-greasy, and easy to apply. The product positioning remained cautious and compliant, avoiding medical promises and instead emphasizing personal care, confidence, and gentle botanical support.
The result was a more complete intimate care line that the client could present as a natural-inspired personal care series, not just a single cleansing product. The herbal formula gave the brand a clearer shelf story: modern intimate care supported by plant-based ingredients and OEM/ODM formulation capability. It also helped the client prepare product descriptions, packaging directions, and marketing language that were more suitable for export communication and local retail explanation.

United States Market Application: Topical Comfort and Skincare
The U.S. project was broader. The client wanted to explore two directions: body comfort products for consumers who need daily massage and localized care, and botanical skincare products for everyday facial and body care. The challenge was that the U.S. market is more sensitive to claim language, especially when a product involves pain, relief, or body discomfort. Therefore, the project required a formulation strategy and a communication strategy at the same time.
For the topical comfort line, we developed cream and balm-style products such as body comfort cream, joint-area massage cream, head comfort cream, and leg comfort cream. These products were designed for external use, massage routines, after-work body care, and everyday comfort scenarios. The formula direction combined herbal extracts with texture-building systems that could deliver spreadability, skin adhesion, and a clean finish after massage.
Instead of positioning the products as medical treatment, we helped shape them as comfort-focused topical care. This distinction was important. The product experience came from a combination of botanical extracts, massage-friendly cream structure, and sensory elements such as cooling or warming feel. For example, a leg comfort product required a lighter texture that could be used after standing or walking for long hours. A joint-area massage cream required more cushion and glide. A head comfort cream required a non-greasy finish and a calmer scent direction. Each product used herbal positioning differently, depending on the user scenario.
The formulation outcome was a family of products with a consistent herbal identity but different usage occasions. This gave the client a stronger product architecture. Instead of launching one generic cream, the brand could organize the line by body area and daily scenario: head, body, joints, and legs. This made the product easier for consumers to understand and easier for the sales team to explain.

United States Market Application: Skincare

The skincare part of the U.S. project focused on botanical daily care. The client wanted products that could fit into a natural skincare story but still feel modern, smooth, and competitive with mainstream cosmetic products. We worked on cream, serum, and body care concepts using herbs such as ginseng, centella, green tea, reishi, ginger, peony, and other plant-based ingredients depending on the product direction.
For facial care, the focus was not to make the formula look old-fashioned or purely traditional. The U.S. consumer often expects both ingredient transparency and visible product logic. Therefore, the formula story combined Eastern herbal inspiration with modern skincare benefits: hydration, skin softness, barrier comfort, improved radiance, and a smoother appearance. The texture also had to match U.S. expectations: easy absorption, no heavy residue, and a comfortable finish suitable for daily use.
For body skincare, the botanical concept was applied to body cream, body lotion, massage oil, and body wash. This allowed the client to extend the herbal story beyond facial care and create a complete personal care collection. The result was a product family that connected skincare, body care, and wellness-inspired daily care under one botanical identity.

Formulation Value
Across both markets, the most important achievement was not a single formula. It was the ability to turn herbal ingredients into complete product systems. In Vietnam, the system helped create a feminine intimate care line with a gentle, fresh, and natural-inspired positioning. In the United States, the same formulation platform supported comfort-focused topical products and botanical skincare products with different textures and usage scenarios.
This case also showed why herbal formulation requires more than adding an extract to a base formula. A plant ingredient must match the target user, the product texture, the claim direction, the packaging format, and the market’s reading habits. For example, a botanical ingredient in an intimate wash should support a feeling of mildness and freshness. A botanical ingredient in a massage cream should support the product story around body comfort and touch. A botanical ingredient in a facial serum should support a more refined skincare narrative. The ingredient may come from the same herbal system, but the product logic must change with the market and the category.

Production and Commercial Outcome
From a production perspective, the project moved from concept discussion to formula adjustment, sample development, packaging suggestion, product description, and OEM/ODM preparation. The clients received not only formulas, but also product names, category positioning, usage directions, and communication language that could support market presentation. This reduced the gap between laboratory sample and commercial product launch.
For the Vietnam client, the major outcome was the creation of a more differentiated intimate care line that could compete beyond basic cleansing. For the U.S. client, the major outcome was a broader herbal personal care system that covered topical comfort and skincare applications. Both results proved that herbal formulas can be applied across multiple product fields when they are developed with market logic, responsible claims, and strong manufacturing execution.

Conclusion
This case demonstrates our practical approach to herbal OEM/ODM development. We do not see botanical formulation as a decoration added at the end of product development. We use herbal ingredients as part of a full product-building process: market positioning, formula structure, sensory experience, application scenario, packaging language, and production feasibility. Whether the target market is Vietnam, the United States, or another international market, the goal is the same: to help brands transform herbal inspiration into market-ready personal care products.
By applying the same herbal formulation capability to intimate care, topical comfort products, facial skincare, and body care, we helped clients develop products with clearer stories and stronger category relevance. This is the value of a mature herbal OEM/ODM partner: not only making products, but helping brands build product lines that consumers can understand, trust, and remember.
